Menghabiskan Akhir Pekan dengan Tidur Bikin Gemuk Isiakhir pekan Anda dengan sesuatu yang bermanfaat. Jangan hanyatidur karena lelah bekerja selama sepekan. Penelitian terbaru menunjukkan tidur di akhir pekan tak baik untukkesehatan. Tidur di akhir pekan dapat memperburuk kondisi perut. Studi yang dipublikasikan di jurnalCurrent Biology mendapati tidur di akhir pekan dapat berujung pada berat badan yang meningkat. Para peneliti menganalisis tidur 36 laki-laki dan perempuan yang dibagi dalam tiga kelompok selama 10 hari. Semuanya merupakan orang yang tidak memiliki gangguan kesehatan atau bayi baru lahir yang dapat memengaruhi kualitas tidur mereka. Kelompok pertama memiliki kesempatan untuk tidur selama sembilan jam setiap malam. Kelompok kedua dibatasi tidur hanya lima jam setiap malamnya. Sementara kelompok ketiga tidur hingga lima jam dari Senin sampai Jumat, tetapi dibolehkan untuk tidur selama yang mereka mau di akhir pekan dan tidur sepagi apapun pada Sabtu malam.
Hasilnya, peneliti menemukan kedua kelompok yang kurang tidur mengonsumsi camilan lebih banyak setelah makan malam. Berat badan mereka pun bertambah, laki-laki lebih banyak dibandingkan perempuan. Kelompok laki-laki yang kurang tidur menunjukkan peningkatan berat badan 2,8 persen, sementara perempuan mengalami kenaikan berat badan sebesar 1,1 persen. Sedangkan laki-laki yang tidur di akhir pekan menunjukkan penambahan berat badan 3 persen, dan perempuan naik 0,05 persen. Selain meningkatkan berat badan, tidur di akhir pekan juga dikaitkan dengan terganggunya kemampuan tubuh untuk mengatur gula darah. Orang yang tidur di akhir pekan mengalami peningkatan sensitivitas terhadap insulin sehingga meningkatkan risiko terhadap diabetes.
"Tidur akhir pekan tidak protektif. Inti dari penelitian ini adalah jika Anda tidur di akhir pekan dan pola tidur Anda buruk, maka Anda akan makan terlalu banyak, berat badan tetap bertambah," kata direktur penelitian tidur di Johns Hopkins University Vsevolod Polotsky, dikutip dariCNN . Polotsky menilai, penambahan berat badan itu terjadi karena pengaruh hormon kelaparan yang muncul akibat kurang tidur kronis. "Hormon leptin mengurangi nafsu makan, sedangkan hormon ghrelin meningkatkan nafsu makan. Kita tahu dari penelitian sebelumnya bahwa kurang tidur menyebabkan leptin turun dan ghrelin naik, jadi Anda lapar," ucap Polotsky.
